Fantasia Barrino came to fame on a reality TV show and now she’s returning to the format in a bid to boost her flailing career. Starting next year, fans of the “American Idol” winner will get an unprecedented look inside her life via a new VH1 reality series that will chronicle her life as a recording artist and single mother, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“Fantasia has one of the most fascinating stories in show business, from her tough upbringing to her meteoric rise on the national scene thanks to ‘American Idol,’ ” said Jeff Olde, executive VP of original programming at VH1. “Her challenges and unwillingness to fail have combined to create a larger-than-life talent.”
Fantasia is no stranger to putting her life out there for consumption — the last time she graced the small screen fans got the epic Lifetime movie, “Life Is Not a Fairy Tale.” The biopic is most notable for a fabulous vomit scene that was more unintentionally hilarious than most of her outfits.
Despite that, I’m a huge fan of the singer’s and am looking forward to seeing her through the warped VH1 lens. “Fantasia’s life has been an open book, but, at 24 years old, her story has just begun,” exec producer Randy Barbato said. “We look forward to smashing expectations and revealing the fresh, funny and unexpected side of this one-of-a-kind country girl and superstar.”
