Oh my gosh! If you don’t like what Adam Lambert does, thendon’t watch. Get over yourselves, he’s an artist, that’s what artists do. There are so many celebs who do the same thing, and nobody says anything. If your issues are about children, don’t let them watch either. It’s as simple as that. And as for him being self absorbed, I think he has every right to be.
I find all of these comments absolutely hilarious. I guess teenage Miley Cyrus dancing and gyrating on a stripper pole at the family friendly “Teen Choice” awards is perfectly acceptable? Can you say…double standard?
“Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin has been covered on American Idol before; why now are the lyrics suddenly offensive to the OP? Anoop Desai and Danny Gokey were also suggestive in their dancing during the AI Tour. 17 year old Allison Iraheta showed tons of cleavage, and danced suggestively while singing Fog Hat’s Slow Ride (slow down, go down, got to get your lovin one more time, hold me, roll me, we can roll all night, etc. etc.) Why isn’t anyone here complaining about those performances?
And, if I had a dollar for everytime I’ve seen Michael Jackson grabbing his crotch and thrusting his hips on the major news networks over the past few months, I could probably pay off my mortgage. Prime time, evening news. Every day for weeks and weeks. Tons of kids watching. I guess that’s ok for the kiddies to watch, right? After all MJ wasn’t openly gay, so I guess that makes it all good.
WELL your ~child must be a little, little kid. Therefore they wouldn’t really understand what the heck is going on up on that stage that you’re freaking out over. And if they’re a bit older, say 8-10 years old and up, well, sorry to say, but they probably won’t even be bothered by this. They’ve probably already started that whole… yeah. Or at least have been exposed to it through the internet, media, etc…

Bwah! First time I ever heard it described that way! Sorry, saying that “‘family friendly’ children are exposed to much worse than this everyday” is no excuse. It doesn’t make his actions acceptable for a family show no matter how you try to spin it.

Well, Patti, it would be fine if only adults were at these concerts. The point is that families with young children attend these concerts expecting it to be family friendly. Regardless of Adam’s talent or “hotness”, that is not appropriate behavior at a family concert. Frankly, I’m surprised that Adam, and especially the tour producers, are not taking that in consideration in this show. It is highly unlikely that I would ever think of taking a child to a Steve Tyler concert. I have taken a child to an AI concert. I would of been quite upset if that type of performance had happened there in front of a child.

Why does entertainment 19 allow this to occur? I thought that the Idols were monitored while on the road. AI has always been known as a family friendly concert. I’m sorry for the parents with young kids are being exposed to this type of behavior. I’m not a prude and have been to many concerts that could be R rated but I would never take my kids to them. Maybe living in California has influenced Adam’s behavior..or maybe he thinks that’s what people want to see. Who knows? He is not a role model like the rest of the idols. What Adam does own his private life is his business but please don’t subject concert goers to such behavior.
I watched it and I have be to be honest that it is even worse in real time. Besides stroking the mike stand between his legs, his facial expressions & the gyrating/thrusting makes it obvious that he is intentionally trying to be sexual.
He was described by some as being “sweet” & “humble”. There’s nothing sweet about this. There’s also nothing humble about his beckoning for applause/screams at 1:36.
We’re not prudes here, but AI is known to be a family show. His actions are tacky at best.
JMO – but the entire performance is so contrived – from the way he purposely trusts the mic stand between his legs to every gasp & head snap. There’s really nothing natural about it.

Guess that was a bit of an understatement. He really is disgusting–not at all what I would consider an American Idol or a role model. One of the best things about American Idol was that it was a family show that you could watch with your kids. Guess that has all changed. Too bad!

My issue is with the decontextualization of the clip…the slo-mo and cropping to emphasize the action along with the commentary. No matter how you want to spin it, the clip shows what I said it shows. It is entirely appropriate to warn parents what they can expect to see and hear at the concert. Adam Lambert is a pig for getting his rocks off in front of families with children present.
